Tonight it finally happened. I peppered my popcorn for the first time.

The salt and the pepper shakers are (tragically) identical in appearance. I did not pick them out. They were gifted to me. Why the pepper shaker was most prominent tonight is beyond me, as I never use it. Why did I tuck salt away in the back?

That’s not actually relevant, but it did just happen. Besides, surely you know better than to come here looking for relevance, right?

Tonight was the “Fall Formal” theme at line dancing. Disney princess edition. The costumes were amazing; all my favourite people looked fabulous. I braided my hair into a crown and studded it with sparkly flower hairpins. The long version of my LBD (yes I do have it in four different colours and yes I am a suburban dad) and my elbow-length white gloves completed the look. And the cowboy boots. Let’s not mention those.

I’ll admit, though, I think the Disney princess (yes, I know it’s Fox) I came closest to was… the Dowager Empress of Russia from Anastasia. Oh well. These things happen. She’s seen some stuff! A cool lady!

But it was a good night for friendship and for dancing. I’m not entirely sure it’s even a real expression, but as I was on the dance floor I realized I understood the phrase “young blood” for the first time.

My blood felt young.

You should see me in a crown.

(Look, my best guess is that this is Sarah’s Straight-Up Yellow Snacking Cake. It was good.)
